On ice bats: “I made up ice bats, there is no such thing.” / by Laura Kochman

Anne Carson talks about dragging thoughts from the mush of the unconscious and sometimes you read something and they represent the thing you've been trying to express [see: Sabrina Orah Mark]. I spend so much time feeling like I comprehend reality differently from other people, especially when it comes to writing. It's nice to think that it's okay to be inscrutable.

Also, Anne Carson told this joke, which made me tear up a little:

“Where do otters come from?” she asked, and then without pause or inflection delivered the punch line: “otter space.”

OTTER SPACE. Genius.
